3 Tips For Recovering From Hair Transplant Surgery

If your hair is thinning out or balding, you may not like the way that it looks. You likely feel self conscious about this, and would do something about it if you could. Thankfully, you have the option of getting a hair transplant. This procedure uses grafts of skin from the back of your head and places them in the area where you are balding. This procedure is quite successful, but has a recovery period much like any other medical procedure. This article is going to discuss 3 tips for recovering from hair transplant surgery.

Do Not Wash Your Hair

When you get a hair transplant it is going to be imperative that you wait to wash your hair until after your first post-operative appointment. At this appointment your doctor will be able to examine your hair transplant and see how well it took. They will carefully shampoo your hair and will then blow it dry. They will do so in a manner that is not going to be painful to you, but will effectively clean the hair and examine what kind of condition it is in. Then, once they give you go the go ahead to wash your hair, you can go home and do so carefully.

Avoid Strenuous Activity

While you will likely be able to return to your desk job a couple of days following surgery, it is very important that you avoid strenuous activity. You have just going through a procedure that is going to leave your head feeling sore and it is going to need time to heal. Strenuous activity can cause increased blood flow into this area of your head, which can cause it to swell and become somewhat painful for you. Instead, you will want to wait until it is fully recovered before you return to strenuous activity.

Avoid Chemical Treatments

After you have received a hair transplant, you are going to need to be careful with your hair. These are new hair follicles that are trying to grow and thrive from grafted skin, so you want to do all that you can to help take care of them so that you can have a successful transplant. One way to ensure that your transplant is as successful as possible is to avoid any chemical treatments on your hair, such as dying, perming, highlighting, etc., until your grafts have had plenty of time to fully graft to your skin and the hair is strong and growing in successfully. This is generally going to take a month or so, but you can always ask your doctor about when they think it is safe to chemically treat your hair.
